Serverless and startups, the beginning of a beautiful friendship
Presenter: Slobodan Stojanović, Slobodan is CTO of Cloud Horizon & Vacation Tracker, the AWS Serverless Hero, and co-author of “Serverless Applications with Node.js” book, published by Manning Publications.
Serverless seems to be perfect for startups. The pay-per-use pricing model and infrastructure that costs you nothing if no one is using your app makes it cheap for early-stage startups. On the other side, it’s fully managed and scales automatically, so you don’t have to be afraid of large marketing campaigns or unexpected traffic. This presentation will show you the benefits that startups, and other small and medium companies, have with serverless. It’ll also show some of the potential issues, such as vendor lock-in, etc. And describe the way we use serverless to build our product, Vacation Tracker.
15.15 – 15.30
15.30 – 16.00

He will present how these services helped them to be successful and advantages it has created for them. In his presentation he will cover using CloudFront, EC2, ElasticBeanstalk, S3, SNS, DeviceFarm, RDS, DynamoDB etc.
16:30 – 17.00
How we’ve built our serverless error-tracking developer tool, Desole, over one weekend
Presenter: Aleksandar is an AWS Serverless Hero and an experienced senior software engineer at ScienceExchange
Serverless is not only great for building small or enterprise-level applications, but also developer-friendly tools that you are already using on a day-to-day basis. There are many serverless backend monitoring, logging and tracking tools available on the market, but we should not forget about frontend developer tools, most importantly client-side error tracking. Frontend developers usually have no choice but to estimate tool usage, estimate capacity and use pay-per-month services even just to track their client-side application errors. In this session, we will show you how over one weekend a team of three developers built a free serverless error tracking solution and made it available AWS Serverless Application Repository. You will learn how we utilized AWS Lambda, CloudFormation, SNS, S3, Amazon Pinpoint, ElasticSearch and built a complete error tracking solution. Also, you will see how easy it is and how little time it’s needed to build your own serverless developer tools and enable other developers to deploy them to you account in an instant.
